Legal Requirements

Both partners must be over 18 years of age.
Celebrant needs to sight originals of all documents prior to the ceremony which are:
Birth Certificate.
Decree Absolute if divorced.
Death Certificate if relevant.
Passport if not born in Australia.
Name change certificate if relevant.

If documents are not in English they must be translated and signed by translator and brought with originals.
The Notice of Intent to Marry (NOIM) must be filled out, signed and in the Celebrant's possession at least one month and one day prior to the wedding and is current for 18 months.

If NOIM is filled out overseas, signatures must be witnessed be a Notary Public, an Australian Diplomatic Officer or Consular Official and posted to be in the Celebrants possession at least one month and one day prior to the ceremony. Birth Certificates etc can be faxed for Celebrant's information but originals must be brought to be sighted before the ceremony.
